Sugar Grove, located on St.
Rt. 33 between Lancaster and Logan, has a ghost story in gruesome detail. In
1930 a woman named Anna was engaged to Fred Lee. The people who lived near them
wondered if they would ever get married, the way the couple would feud. They
would have violent fights one day and kissing and hugging the next day. One day
Anna had one fight too many, some say her fiancé decided they could
never get alog due to their fighting, and was leaving her. Soon after, Anna and
Fred sat parked on a covered bridge. Anna pulled out a knife from her purse and
slit her lovers throat! In a frenzy she hacked and sawed through his neck,
slashing muscle and tendon until she twisted his head off to free it from the
backbone. Anna climbed a nearby hill and sat with her ex-lovers head in her
lap. She mumered that he was hers now and forever, then she cut her own throat.
She was found clutching her lover's head by the hair. The coroner said she
walked down the hill before collapsing due to the trail of blood. Anna can
still be seen today if you get out of your car on moonlit nights and yell
"Anna!". A bluish light will be seen on the hill top and slowly form into a
human figure that walks toward you, then disappears into the night.
